These terms govern your use of Compare Builders (the “Platform”), operated by Compare Data Group Ltd (“we”, “us”). By using the Platform you agree to these terms.
1. What we do
Compare Builders is a curated marketplace that connects UK homeowners with verified building professionals through a sealed-bid auction. We facilitate introductions; we are not party to any contract between you and a builder for the underlying work.
2. Homeowners
- Use of the funnel and matching service is free.
- Information you provide must be accurate. Misrepresenting your project may invalidate the match.
- We’ll match you with one Verified Premium builder via the sealed-bid auction. If the auction fails to clear, we may introduce you to up to three suitable builders via our fallback path.
- Any contract for the building work itself is between you and the builder directly. We are not party to it.
- You can request deletion of your data at any time, subject to our retention obligations under the privacy policy.
3. Builders
- Accreditation is by application. We reserve the right to decline any application without giving reasons.
- The accreditation fee (one-off, currently £199 standard / £499 Verified Premium) is payable on application. We may refund pro-rata in exceptional circumstances at our discretion.
- Auctions are sealed-bid. The highest valid bid wins exclusive access to the homeowner’s contact details upon payment of the bid amount. Lost bidders pay nothing.
- You contractually agree not to bypass the platform — every homeowner introduction must originate from a paid, won auction. Lead documents are watermarked.
- You will respond to won leads within 48 hours and accurately capture the outcome. Persistent low responsiveness or unfair customer outcomes will result in suspension or accreditation revocation.
- Annual re-verification is included in the accreditation. Failure to provide refreshed evidence will result in temporary suspension.
4. Acceptable use
You will not:
- Submit projects you have no intention of pursuing, or impersonate another homeowner.
- Submit accreditation applications you have no intention of completing.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or automate access to the Platform beyond ordinary individual use.
- Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in any manner that could damage, disable, or impair its operation.
5. Disclaimers
Verification gives you a meaningful trust signal — we go beyond directories and review marketplaces — but it does not guarantee any particular outcome on your project. Construction is risky and unpredictable; we encourage homeowners to use our optional Project Protection product (when available), commission their own surveys, and read the full builder profile before entering into a contract.
6. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the acts or omissions of any builder. Our aggregate liability arising from your use of the Platform is limited to the amount you have paid us in the previous 12 months (which, for homeowners, will typically be £0).
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited under English law.
7. Termination
Either party may terminate this agreement at any time. We may suspend or terminate access immediately if we reasonably believe you are in material breach of these terms.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
